It's On! GLIvyN's Biggest Singles Event of the Year at O-Bar!
For: Current GLIvyN members, NEW members and guests (couples and the relationship-confused are also welcome!). 21 and over only please.
Date/Time: Saturday, July 18, 6:30 - 9:30 PM. (Arrive early: O-Bar's happy hour starts at 6pm!)
Description: The last singles event we held completely filled East/West bar, so this year we`re moving to a bigger venue. We hope you'll come and help take over O-Bar to spread the love. We'll have door prizes and the debut of the emerald green "Ivy Martini" (at a special price!). No speed dating this time, but we will spice up the night with our own twists on creative introductions. This will be a great opportunity to turn on your natural charm and hone your man- or woman-lassoing skills!
Cost: This event is free of charge. But we're asking you to do your part to expand the GLIvyN "gene pool" by bringing along your friends to the event. Here's how it works: Gentlemen, bring your hottest lesbian friends (or your coolest gay male friends). Ladies, bring along your hottest gay male friends (or your coolest lesbian friends). Please "donate" at least one single friend to the cause!
Location: O-Bar, 8279 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046.
RSVP: Please help us plan this event by RSVPing online! To do that, log in to the member directory, click on the Events link (middle left) then select the Singles Event link. No advance payment is required.

Outfest 2009 in Collaboration with GLIvyN Presents: An Englishman in New York
John Hurt stars as Quentin Crisp in this delightful biopic about the final years of the famed gay wit. Following the aging eccentric, newly famous as a wry author and public speaker in England through his final years in New York, the film traces his on-again, off-again romance with his new home. Celebrated, exploited and misunderstood, the brilliant Crisp never seems to have expected anything different. Joined by a stellar supporting cast, including Cynthia Nixon, Swoosie Kurtz and Jonathan Tucker, Hurt is pitch-perfect in this illuminating portrayal of the unique queer pioneer.
Directed By: Richard Laxton (UK, 2009, 74 mins)
Screening Date: Sun, Jul 12th 2:00pm DGA 1. $13.
To purchase tickets: As a member of GLIvyN, you are eligible to receive a $1 discount on each ticket purchased for this film! Call 213.480.7065 or click here.

GLIvyN Is Now on Facebook!
If you are already a member of Facebook, you can now find us by logging in, searching Groups for "glivyn" and then making a request to join. (Or you can go directly to the group page by clicking here.)
The GLIvyN Facebook group is "closed," which means that, while anyone can view the group's profile, to join and view other members you must have a Facebook account and be approved by the group's administrator (or invited to join). All current members of GLIvyN will be approved (be sure to provide the name and email address you use for GLIvyN for verification purposes). In addition, new members (or referrals from members) may request to join the group, but they will be subject to our usual membership approval process.
And if you don't yet have a Facebook account, but you've been thinking about jumping on the social networking bandwagon, this is a great opportunity to sign up, connect with your GLIvyN colleagues online, put faces to names, and make new "pre-screened" connections that extend beyond our group. Facebook is free to join, so you have nothing to lose (except your valuable free time as you become more and more addicted!). If you have questions or need any assistance signing up with Facebook, please contact Lee Knight.
Some interesting facts: Facebook started at Harvard and then was expanded to the Ivies before its explosive growth began. Facebook currently has approximately 36 million members in the U.S. alone (80 million worldwide) and is the 6th-most trafficked web site in the world.
