1 - Alumni in the News
FFR member Brian Johnson, Princeton '99, Stanford *05, is running in the primary for California State Assembly in the newly drawn 46th district. Brian is the Executive Director of the Larchmont Charter Schools. Previously, Brian was the Executive Director of the Los Angeles chapter of Teach for America. The primary will be held in June. According to Globe Newswire, Brian has had an early and substantive lead in fundraising among the Democratic candidates.

Harvard GLC alum Mark Takano is running for Congress. If he succeeds, he will be California's first openly LGBT member of Congress and the first openly gay person of color ever elected to Congress.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to serving at-risk LGBTQ youth who typically are underserved by schools, communities and often their own families. Young people between the ages of 12 and 24 are provided services ranging from counseling and case management to mental health and after-school programs such as academic enrichment & college preparation, job & career readiness, arts & culture and health & wellness programming. A number of special lectures and events are being held at Princeton University celebrating the remarkable Alan Turing Princeton *38. Turing is most famous both for his efforts that helped crack the codes used by Nazi Germany during the war and it's influence in the developing world of cryptography and is considered to be the founder of computer science. He was subsequently prosecuted criminally for homosexuality and chemically castrated by the British Government. He died at the age of 42 in what was officially ruled a suicide, though some have questioned that analysis. Included in the events is a screening of the remarkable film Breaking the Code Friday evening.
